‘Masked Britain’ is a collection of images illustrating the environmental impact of the careless discarding of disposable face masks used during the Covid-19 pandemic. These blue masks became as endemic in my local environment as the virus they were meant to protect us from. The masks and the plastics contained in them will live in the environment for years to come, many migrating to our rivers and oceans.
Each mask was photographed exactly as it was found. During the pandemic it was estimated more than 50 million masks were thrown away each day in the UK alone.
