I love this luxury product shot of the Omega Seamaster. Nice watch too… do you think I could hang on to it….?!

With a launch at the Bristol Sound and Vision HiFi show imminent I was asked to shoot the new LX range of speakers from Mission. The first two models, the LX2 and LX3, made their début at the show supported by a range of photography including a selection of cut-outs and the more creative images you see above. Looking pretty good I think you’ll agree and after a quick listen at the show I can confirm they sound pretty good too, as you would expect from Mission of course! All images ©Adrian Lyon.
So do you remember the humble audio cassette and the majesty of the mix tape and recording your favourite tracks from the Top 40 on a Sunday afternoon? It’s hard to believe it’s fifty years old yet at the same time it seems like an age since it was a useful way of storing and reproducing music such has been the progress of technology in recent years.
It was never the most reliable of media with great arm-fulls regularly needing to be fished out of the deck before being feed gently back into the cassette plus it never really sounded good, especially after a spell in the car. But it did (eventually) allow music to become properly portable and accessible almost anywhere (assuming you had enough batteries) which is reason for celebration in it’s self.
Wonder how long it will be before we’re saying similar things about CDs and DVDs?

These are a two of my favorite shots of the Magico Q1 speakers and Jadis JA120 amp from a couple of recent shoots for HiFi+ magazine. Both are gorgeous products and phenomenally expensive too, but worth every penny, I’m told… (guys, may be next time I could borrow them for while?!) All images ©Adrian Lyon.
Here’s another cover shoot for HiFi Plus, this time of the exquisitely made and sounding Sonus Faber Amati. More images from the shoot were used to open and illustrate the review. I really enjoy getting to grips with curves and highly polished finishes of these products which is always an exciting challenge to light, I just wish they weren’t so heavy! All images ©Adrian Lyon
Here’s the cover from a recent shoot for HiFi+ (April/May 2010 issue). Amongst the Hi-Fi press it’s a title I’ve long wanted to work for so it’s pleasing to have shot the Ayre QB-9 DAC for the cover and lead review. There’s more shots inside to illustrate the review and if you haven’t already picked one up get your copy here. All images ©Adrian Lyon
Here’s a spread from one of my recent shoots for T3 which can be seen in the May 2010 issue. Having found and shot a suitable location the phones were then shot individually in the studio to match the angle and perspective to their position in the location shot. Subsequently the components parts were assembled in Photoshop to create the final image. All images © Adrian Lyon.
One of the nice things about product photography is I’m quite often amongst the first to get hold of the latest cool technology gadgets and the iPad is no exception, all be it, an all to brief visit to the studio. In best Apple style it is of course great to look at, handles beautifully and is very slick in operation, although I’m not entirely sure how useful it will be for photography. Time will tell no doubt! All images © Adrian Lyon.
A busy spring so far has seen amongst others Kudos’s fabulous speakers through the studio. The whole range was covered to create a new image bank for marketing and PR as well as a new website – kudosaudio.com.
I have a pair of these myself and I’m a big fan, Derek has the Midas touch when it comes to designing speakers and I thoroughly recommend an audition. All images ©Adrian Lyon.
