My passion for photography first started when I was growing up in Yorkshire. I would borrow my Dad’s old Pentax and head out into the Peak District to experiment with different films and techniques, then spend hours in the darkroom printing the results. Thinking more and more about photography as a career and always being keen to learn I spent my summer holidays working for a local commercial photographer. This is where I took my first steps on the road to being a professional.
In 1991 after 3 years studying to degree level I graduated from Salisbury College and moved to London where I started my photography life for real assisting Jean Paul Froget followed by Chris Holland. I learnt a great deal from JP and Chris about commercial photography and of course business and professionalism, which stood me in good stead as I began to develop my own clients.
Today I work from my London studio where I bring my 20+ years of experience and a high level of expertise (particularly within pharmaceutical marketing and the technology, AV and Hi-Fi sectors) to my clients from advertising, commercial, editorial and PR markets. These skills, developed in the era of large format cameras and film when it was important to get it right first time, combined with being an early adopter of digital technologies and software allow me to thrive on the creative and technical challenge a brief brings, as well as working with art directors and designers to convey the best of a concept. Well know for producing exciting images with flair and attention to detail in the studio, I’m also equally at home on location having worked on productions large and small all over the world, leading to long-standing established relationships.
Awards to date include finalist for the 2009 AOP Photographers Awards & 2009 AOP Open, Public Choice runner up 2008 AOP Open and a commendation from Landscape Photographer of the Year 2009. I’ve shot a D&AD silver campaign for Nike and also received PM Society and IPA Best of Health awards in the pharmaceutical sector amongst others.
Aside from photography I also offer pre-production, retouching, image manipulation and design services as well as tutoring and consultancy.
I’m a member of the Association of Photographers (AOP).
